BLUE GROWTH COMMUNITY PARTICIPATED IN ONE SUSTAINABLE OCEAN, in the framework of the UNITED NATIONS OCEAN CONFERENCE 2022

The Blue Growth Community co-organized with the modular project BLUEfasma a capitalization event, which took place on June 30, 2022, in Lisbon.

Under the “One Sustainable Ocean initiative”, the Blue Growth Community co-organized with the modular project BLUEfasma a capitalization event, which took place on June 30, 2022, in Lisbon.

One Sustainable Ocean was an official side-event of 2nd United Nations Ocean Conference 2022(UNOC). It was focused on the ocean´s future, sustainability, circular economy and innovation. It was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life below water

Interreg Med Blue Growth Community participated in One Sustainable Ocean as part of capitalization activities, presenting the work of the community, the tools developed, and the main results. This session was conducted by Caterina Praticò (CONISMA), representing the Lead Beneficary of the Blue Growth project; Elsa Ferreira Nunes, (IrRADIARE´s ) CEO and Blue Growth Community Portuguese partner; Mónica Rogério (CEEETA-eco) BLUEfasma Portuguese partner and João Serra (Lourinhã Municipality) BLUEfasma associated Municipality.

Caterina Praticò opened the session and introduced the Blue Growth Community, namely its objectives, the BGC modular projects and the main results achieved during the last six years.

Elsa Ferreira Nunes presented the tools produced by BGC's modular projects. She highlighted the diversity of tools available to improve blue economy sustainability in the MED region, including: policy recommendations to support the definition of strategies and policies for the blue economy; innovative solutions for financing the blue economy initiatives and tools to support the action and operationalization of strategic measures in blue economy sector.

Mónica Rogério presented the BLUEfasma project and its contribution for the blue circular economy in MED Regions. She disseminated BLUEfasma final results and invited the participating entities to join the BLUEfasma agreement and the Letter of Commitment.

João Serra highlighted how relevant it is to define and implement solutions for sustainable development and blue circular economy for the Municipality of Lourinhã and shared its own case study, as BLUEfasma Portuguese associated municipality.

One Sustainable Ocean was a great opportunity not only to capitalize BGC results and outcomes but to raise awareness on the availability of tools and that can really promote a sustainable Blue sector.
