A new community of experts and sea operators will meet in Rome on April 6-7, 2017 to discuss about the Blue Growth sector in the Mediterranean region, and the long term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole. The gathering, taking place at Società Geografica Italiana, is celebrated in the framework of Interreg Med's horizontal project for Innovation and Blue Growth: InnoBlueGrowth.

Seas and oceans are drivers for the Euro-Mediterranean economy and have great potential for innovation and growth. For this reason, the European Commission (EC) - through Interreg Med - has considered strategic to entrust this InnoBlueGrowth project, addressing Blue Growth key issues such as Blue energy, Maritime surveillance, and Yachting.

This event is the first of a series that will take place over the next three years. On this occasion, the partners of the Modular Projects iBlue, MAESTRALE, PELAGOS, and PROteuS, along with stakeholders, policy makers, decision makers, among others will meet, to discuss, exchange ideas and work together to plan a better future for the Mediterranean.

During the meeting in Rome, a number of several speakers will take the floor to talk about this new strategic approach: Maria Groueva, Project Officer Interreg Med Joint Secretariat, Paola Imperiale, Minister Plenipotentiary and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maritime Affairs Coordinator of International Interest, and Carlo Maria Medaglia, Chief Technical Advisor of the Ministry of Italian Environment.

Raffaele Mancini, expert on Blue Economy from the Union for the Mediterranean, George Alexakis, Vice-President of the CPMR and in charge of Maritime Affairs, and Ferdinando Boero, CoNISMa representative in the European Marine Board will also contribute to explaining Blue Growth from different points of view: as a Mediterranean strategy, as an economic driver, and in relation to environmental sustainability.
